Islamic funeral (Janazah) Etiquette:
Both men and women should dress modest and conservatively. For women it is best to wear loose fitting long garments. When attending a janazah at the masjid, women should respectfully wear a head covering and everyone should wear clean socks because the shoes will need to be removed.
Crying is permissible but loud wailing is not.
Guest should not take photos or use recording devices at the service or burial.
Traditionally, only men attend the service and burial. However, modern communities allow women and children to attend.
No unnecessary discussion should take place at the burial. All guests should pray for the soul of the departed.
Be prompt or early for the service. Most services last from approximately 5-30 minutes.
