William Staples was born on June 21, 1961, in West Philadelphia, and passed away on September 27, 2025, at the age of 64.
William grew up in West Philly and attended West Philadelphia High School. At 18, he entered the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country. After his time in the service, he worked alongside his grandfather as a carpenter, learning the value of hard work and craftsmanship.
Family was at the heart of everything William did. He leaves behind his three children Keisha, Eric, and Shanta, eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his sister Benjala Gordon, brothers Vernon Staples and Robert Gordon , one niece, one nephew, five great-nieces , three great-nephews, and a host of cousins and friends who will forever carry his memory. He is preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and Benjamin Gordon, and his brothers, Benjamin and Phillip Pryor.
Those who knew William will remember his easy smile, steady presence, and his passion for playing the guitar. Music was his joy, and he shared it with the people around him, often filling a room with both melody and laughter.
William’s life was a reflection of love, resilience, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
