                                                            Life Reflection for Martha Anthony

On August 5, 1947, Martha Anthony was born to the late George and Pearl Moore Anthony in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Martha was the youngest of three girls and she looked up to her big sisters and her four brothers.

As a child, Martha enjoyed reading, playing with her siblings and going to school.   She received her education through the Philadelphia, Public School system.  After graduating from Bok Vocational and Technical High School in 1965, she attended the Community College of Philadelphia where she received her Associates degree.  She continued her education and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work from Temple University.

Martha was raised in the church and attended Sunday School with her siblings.  She loved the Lord and grew in her relationship with Him over the years. The Anthony family were members of Antioch Baptist Church and later attended New Macedonia Baptist church where Martha was baptized at a young age with her brothers and sisters.  As an adult, Martha later became a member of Canaan Baptist Church.  She also visited other churches for special events.  She was a faithful Christian and remained strong in her faith until the end of her life.

One of Martha’s favorite pastimes was traveling.  She traveled with friends, family and sometimes solo and ventured all over the world on eighty-five trips and cruises.

Martha loved her family and took pride in being on the family reunion committee.  She also loved studying her African American history and sharing it with the family.

Throughout her lifetime, Martha worked many jobs including banks and retail stores where she loved to shop for clothing and shoes.  Her favorite job was working for the Department of Veteran Affairs where she worked for thirty years and made many friends.  Martha was a lovely person.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, George and Pearl Anthony, brother George Anthony Jr., and sister Clara Brown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
