Imrana Djibrine Mainassara

Beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, Imrane Djibrine Mainassara passed

away on January 14, 2024 in York, Pennsylvania. Imrane was born on December 5, 1998 in

Niamey, Niger. He is survived by his parents, Djibrine Mainassara Tombologi, Hadiza Allasane,

and Rebecca Schultz; his sisters Addaliath Djibrine Mainassara, Fatimata Djibrine Mainassara,

and Souhayma Djibrine Mainassara; and his extended family in Niger, France, and the United

States.

Imrane spent the first 14 years of his life in Niamey, Niger. He was an outgoing, engaging child;

he made friends easily and connected with people of all ages. Going to his first picnic at age

eight, Imrane shared his food and encouraged his sisters to talk to people they perceived as

“strangers”. This continued during his entire life, and each of his visits in Niger was a celebration

of friendship, because for Imrane no one was a stranger. Imrane had an innate athleticism; since

he was young, he loved soccer. He brought that love with him when he immigrated to the United

States in 2013. Living in Berkeley, California, Imrane spent long hours at nearby San Pablo

Park, playing as many pickup games as he could. In Lake Tahoe, he was already riding the ski

lifts by the end of his first day. Imrane quickly learned English and built a community of fellow

immigrants in the newcomers program at Berkeley High School.

Imrane moved with his family to Elkins Park, Pennsylvania in 2016. He continued playing

soccer in his new home, as well as studying graphic design and photography. After graduating

from Cheltenham High School, he attended Montgomery County Community College and

continued to develop his craft. Imrane particularly loved taking portraits and images of

architecture. Most recently, Imrane lived in York, Pennsylvania, where he quickly built a

community, sharing his kindness, generosity, and care with everyone he met there. He worked as

a personal trainer, bringing his superlative people skills to sharing his love of fitness with others.

Imrane left a big impression on the people he connected with and will be missed by so many.

Imrane’s funeral services and burial were held on January 19th. A memorial to his life will be
